This category seeks to recognise excellence in equipment, sensors, digital tools and solutions that have helped clients gain a better understanding of bridge condition and rate of degradation in the UK or internationally.

These solutions could also focus on reducing health and safety risks or reducing the need for closures to allow inspections to take place.

The entries presented here must have been applied on a bridge or series of bridges during the last 24 months with one project used as a case study to demonstrate the benefits the idea has delivered.

This category is open to projects anywhere in the world that are at the design stage and do not yet have to have secured funding for delivery or have a completion date.

Entries to this category should also demonstrate how buildability, carbon costs and whole life costs have been considered at the design stage, along with details of any innovative materials or construction techniques planned to be used during the construction.

This category is open to adaptation of an existing bridge or demonstration of how climate change has been considered on a new bridge from the outset to ensure the structure remains fit for purpose throughout its design life.

Entries could include scour protections, monitoring to manage increased flood flows, improved drainage of the bridge structure itself or new and improved abutment designs to reduce the risk of flood erosion.

This category seeks to recognise the best contractors – main contractors or specialists - involved in delivering the construction element of new build bridge projects or who carry out major refurbishment schemes on bridges.

This category seeks to reward any civil or structural engineer working for a client, contractor or consultant on bridge structures with 10 years or less post graduate experience.

Entrants should be able to demonstrate how they have excelled in their work, demonstrated industry-leading potential and have made efforts to improve knowledge in the sector.

Entrants will be judged on all round ability – not only academic and work-related achievements – but also their enthusiasm for the industry and their ambition.

Entries should be submitted by either the nominee or their employer and should include a commendation from a senior leader within their organisation.

Nominations for this award are sought to find the individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry over the past 24 months.

Judges will focus on the personal contribution made by the individual, who can be involved in any area of the bridge industry from project planning to design, construction or maintenance and at any stage of their career.

This is not a lifetime achievement award and judges will be looking for an individual who has made their significant contribution in the last 24 months.
