PCU Bridge Design
Prestressed Composite Underslung Bridge Superstructure Design
The PCU bridge superstructure design combines HTS prestressing cables and a composite underslung truss system to achieve remarkable reductions in cost, weight, and construction complexity.
The full dead load and half live load of the superstructure are supported by the prestressing cables which cost and weight about 1/8th of structural steel, and live load is taken by the composite truss having more than doubled stiffness and strength, reducing structural steel consumption to about one third of the conventional steel truss superstructure.
As a result, the cost of the bridge superstructure is less than one third, its deflection under dead load.

Meridian Water – Bridge B1
Bridge B1 redefines modern bridge engineering by combining buildability, sustainability, and architectural excellence. Its integral weathering steel design minimises maintenance, while modular construction enhances efficiency. Carbon-conscious strategies—including a 35% reduction in embodied carbon—demonstrate environmental leadership. Innovative construction techniques and materials including precast brick-faced abutments, elevate aesthetics while ensuring durability. BIM 360 integration, robotic inspection methods, and GRP-based temporary works solutions further push the boundaries of construction innovation. Designed to seamlessly integrate with Meridian Water, Bridge B1 is not just a structure, it is a sustainable, future-ready landmark that sets new industry standards.
