Bridge architect of the year

This award seeks to recognise excellence from bridge architects. Open to those delivering the architectural design element of new build bridge projects or who carry out major refurbishment schemes on bridges.

Beam Architects

BEAM Architects might currently be the UK’s most significant exporter of bridge architecture, punching significantly above its weight in the global bridge industry. The firm works almost exclusively on major infrastructure projects overseas and has been involved in many of the highest profile and largest international projects in recent years, ranging from the highly symbolic Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington DC to the epic Mumbai Trans Harbour Link megaproject in India. BEAM is well-known in the international bridge community and is influential in the addition of architecture to the global reputation and reach of UK bridge engineering expertise.

Grimshaw

Grimshaw is an international practice that works across scales, regions and typologies. Since its founding, the practice has retained a strong focus on unlocking transformational change through high-quality infrastructure design and has earned a reputation as being an industry leader in delivering bridge projects that achieve this. Within the past 18 months, Grimshaw has been involved in over 20 bridge projects across the world, collaborating with leading engineers and contractors on long-span concrete structures to lightweight steel bridges, demonstrating leading edge and in-depth understanding of complex engineering, technical and construction issues.

Weston Williamson+Partners

The WW+P Bridge Team has experienced unprecedented growth over the last 18 months, now boasting over 35 specialists, making them one of the largest Bridge Architects in the UK. Their designs prioritise people and planet, aiming to leave lasting positive legacies, supported by their recently appointed Global Head of Sustainability. Their collaborative approach is key, fostering relationships with clients, engineering partners and contractors. The design quality of their UK bridge work is gaining international attention and has led to the team’s first overseas bridge commission for an opening pedestrian and cycle bridge only 12 months ago.
