associate director , Wilkinson Eyre Architects
Joining WilkinsonEyre in 2000, Simon now heads the practice’s award-winning Bridge Team. His global experience on both opening and static bridge projects for use by pedestrians, vehicles and rail has covered all stages of development from initial concept, through to detailed design, construction and completion. He has a thorough understanding of three-dimensional geometry and, with the aid of CAD modelling techniques, is able to resolve complex spatial problems. In his role as bridge-team leader, he oversees the day-to-day running of projects and acts as the first point of contact between the architectural staff and the wider client and consultant team.
Through his experience, he has developed very good working relationships with external team members including clients and consultants. He was involved in the design of the Peace Bridge in Derry~Londonderry and the Media:CityUK footbridge in Salford. More recently he led the architectural team for the Mary Elmes’ Bridge in Cork and the Lille Langebro in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Simon has also gained experience in the Scandinavian market whilst fulfilling the role of project architect for the competition winning, immersed tube tunnel solution for the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, that proposes a 20km long road and rail tunnel between Denmark and Germany. As well as the interior treatment of the tunnel, Simon led the team in the architectural design of the associated toll plaza and portal buildings. This was a highly complex project that required the careful coordination of various multidisciplinary workstreams.
