David is a chartered structural engineer with over a decade’s experience as a design consultant. He has worked for major bridge consultancies (including Flint & Neill and Buro Happold) and is now Director of Design and Engineering at Cake Industries. He has managed and designed a variety of projects on both a large and small scale, including being lead designer for Greenwich Reach Swing Bridge (winner of the Pedestrian Bridge category at the 2015 Structural Awards), Taplow Footbridge (shortlisted, 2019 Structural Awards) and the Montgomery Bridge in Canary Wharf. He was the lead structural designer for the international competition winning scheme to bridge across the Thames between Pimlico and Nine Elms in 2016. He delights at working closely with architects to design and project manage bridges, buildings, sculpture and moving structures. David led the structural design on the RA Summer Exhibition Sculpture 2012 (“Landscape to Portrait” with Chris Wilkinson RA), Spectra-3 (with Field.io for the Lumiere London festival in 2016), and the Eastbourne Flame (George King Architects, due for completion in 2020). David is an Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins, and has lectured at Imperial College and University College London. He is a board member and trustee of the Institution of Structural Engineers and serves as Vice-Chair of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineers (IABSE) British Group.
